Your free time is valuable, and you might not get much of it these days. So you should be ready to spend it well when you can grasp a little of it. That said, though, you may sometimes be at a loss about what to do when you find some spare minutes or hours, or days. So try some of these ideas to turn your free time into fun time.
Go on Vacation
If you have enough free time, you might set out on a vacation. Perhaps you can only take a weekend. That’s okay. Make plans to visit a city you’ve never seen, camp out for a couple of days, or explore new places around your area. Maybe you can actually take a week or two off. In this case, you might plan something more elaborate if your budget allows it. A fantastic Caribbean cruise might be in the cards or a trip into the mountains or a historical tour. Choose something that strikes your interest, and plan carefully so that you don’t encounter too many unpleasant surprises along the way.

Build a Dream Team
Perhaps a vacation just won’t do right now. You can still make good use of the free time you have even in the comfort of your own home. If you’re a sports fan, you could direct your interest toward something a bit different from fantasy sports. Build your dream team in soccer, football, basketball, or any of your other favorite sports. You can find plenty of help online and even join up with others to compare teams and compete. Be careful, though; you might find yourself so caught up in the game that you don’t want to go back to work.
Try Gaming
There are plenty of other types of games available for non-sports fans, too, and these can be a wonderful way to spend some free time. You could choose fantasy roleplaying games online, tabletop adventures, board games, or card games. You can play alone or with others. Some games allow you to enter into a whole new world, create characters, develop strategies and train your brain. Again, gaming can be quite addicting, so set some limits for yourself.
Read and Read Some More
Are you a reader, or do you want to become more of a reader? Reading is another great option for free time, especially when you want to combine relaxation with learning and entertainment. If you’re already a reader, you probably have a large to-be-read pile. Then set aside some time to dig into it. Commit to reading for a few minutes every day. You can challenge yourself to try new books and genres if you like, but you can also go back to old favorites and experience them anew.
Maybe you’ve never quite gotten into reading. Now may be the time to change that. Choose books that match your interests. If you’re into fantasy sports or gaming, for instance, start with books or magazines that relate. Alternatively, you might ask friends for recommendations or visit your local library and get some advice from the librarian. Start slowly, but be aware that you might find yourself caught up in new adventures and unwilling to put down your book.

Start a New Activity
Finally, if your free time seems rather dull, you might liven it up by starting a new activity you’ve always wanted to pursue. This might be an art or craft project like painting, sewing, or woodworking or an outdoor activity like gardening. There may be a new sport you’ve been wanting to get into, or you may desire to try your hand at cooking or home brewing. The possibilities are almost endless and limited only by your imagination.
So put your free time to good use by trying some of these ideas. There may be times when you simply want to relax and do nothing, but the minute this becomes boring, you’ll have plenty of fun options to exercise your body and mind.
